We're incredibly proud of our Steve Green who helped organise the Ultimate Charity Ball last October, a spectacular fundraising evening held at The Venue, Bowers Mill, Barkisland, which raised an outstanding £50,643.19 for local hospice, The Kirkwood.
Steve was part of a dedicated seven-person committee, friends who first met at their local gym, who spent many months turning a shared vision into reality. From securing the venue and selling tables, to sourcing auction prizes and sponsorship, the team's efforts paid off in spectacular fashion: the event sold out all 320 seats, with a reserve list in place due to overwhelming demand.
The evening was a celebration full of emotion, bringing guests together to support a cause that has touched so many local lives. The Kirkwood relies on community fundraising for 65% of its funding, and thanks to this event, the hospice can now build two new state-of-the-art sensory bathrooms, upgrades that couldn't be covered through capital funding, enhancing dignity and comfort for patients and their families.
"The new sensory bathrooms will provide a calm, relaxing and dignified space, helping us to deliver truly personalised care when it matters most."
- Lynne Hall-Bentley, Director of Clinical Services with The Kirkwood.
The group is already planning a 40th Anniversary Masquerade Ball in March 2027, which has been expanded to a two-day event to meet the extraordinary demand from the community. To find out more about The Kirkwood and how you could get involved in the next event, visit thekirkwood.org.uk
A huge well done to Steve for such a remarkable achievement!
